Next on the to-do list is the garage. It has been temporary holding for all the stuff we don't know what to do with. Since we have no shelves on the wall, most everything is just sitting on the floor.
I like the look and functionality of those garage storage systems, but they are very expensive. I decided to use a french cleat system and make my own shelves, hooks, and specialty compartments. It is basically strips of plywood cut to a 45. Items you hang on the wall have a matching 45 cleat and everything just hangs there.
Here is what we started with. Unfortunately I haven't put much of a dent in it yet.
The first few french cleats on the wall.
I made a couple components for a trial run. It works great. Everything is easy to move around if you don't like the location.
I made some simple hangers for all the yard tools. This would have been around $50 - $100 in hangers if using one of those fancy garage storage systems (and double that for the wall cleats) but only cost me about $3 in dowels and scrap plywood.
The best thing is that I can custom make shelves to fit my stuff. See my socket set below.
Chemicals are now out of reach of little hands, although a locking cabinet is on my list.
